It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg (Deliver Us From Evil, Janis: Little Girl Blue, West Of Memphis), examines the life of the singer-songwriter with an otherworldly voice and boundary-pushing artistry. He left the '90s music world reeling when he died suddenly, at age 30, a few years following the release of his critically acclaimed debut album Grace.
Told through never-before-seen footage from Buckley’s archives and intimate accounts from his mother Mary Guibert, former partners Rebecca Moore and Joan Wasser, Jeff’s former bandmates, including Michael Tighe and Parker Kindred, and fellow luminaries like Ben Harper and Aimee Mann, It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley illuminates one of modern music’s most influential and enigmatic figures.
"Jeff’s life has so many rich stories with as much relevance now as they had 30 years ago," says director Amy Berg. "The challenges he had to overcome explain his depth as well as his pain. He was born of, but not raised by, a beautiful singer who was a cult hero. Jeff’s main challenge in life was his gift. His talent was too powerful for him to ignore but it was inseparable from the ghost of his father."
"The film is a resonant depiction of the gaping holes left by Jeff Buckley’s untimely death." - Chris Barsanti, Slant Magazine
"As we drink in the majesty of his voice, the film lays bare a paradox about him that isn’t nearly as apparent if you just listen to “Grace” (1994), the only album he ever released." - Owen Gleiberman, Variety
"'It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley' doesn’t reinvent the documentary genre, but it does offer a unique perspective on the varying music of the 1990s, an experimental time where lonely artists like Buckley could buck the system and create a new brand of music." - Matthew Creith, TheWrap
