Slovenian with English subtitles

At her mother’s urging, introverted 16-year-old Lucia joins her Catholic school’s all-girls choir, where she befriends Ana-Maria, a popular older student. When the choir travels to a countryside convent for a weekend retreat of intensive rehearsals, Lucia navigates the unfamiliar surroundings, complex teenage social structures, and her own awakening sexuality.

A series of initiations, including an eye-opening experience with a restoration worker, test Lucia’s friendship with Ana-Maria and the other girls, as she begins to question her beliefs and disrupt the harmony within the choir.

This stunning feature debut by award-winning Slovenian filmmaker Urška Djukić had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival and won the Best Cinematography prize at Tribeca.

"It’s a profoundly queer, Catholic work, whose slippery sense of sin and living instils great confusion and consternation to those occupying the narrative’s solemn convent setting." - Robert Daniels, RogerEbert.com

"Djukic’s coming of age drama is heady with intertwined sensual and religious symbolism; the first rate score and sound design teases out the tangled, conflicting impulses towards Catholic devotion and erotic abandon" - Wendy Ide, Screen Daily

"[T]here’s an airy delicacy here that invites comparisons to early Céline Sciamma, but with its own raw, restless edge." - Guy Lodge, Variety
