Lucid Toons is your monthly animation fix, bringing animated films to Carbon Arc Cinema. Lucid Toons is a spin-off of Carbon Arc’s annual Animation Festival of Halifax (AFX), which occurs each year in May.
Based on Marjane Satrapi's graphic novel about her life in pre- and post-revolutionary Iran and then in Europe. The film traces Satrapi's growth from child to rebellious, punk-loving teenager in Iran. In the background are the growing tensions of the political climate in Iran in the 70s and 80s, with members of her liberal-leaning family detained and then executed, and the background of the disastrous Iran/Iraq war. Persepolis is an emotionally powerful, dramatically enthralling autobiographical gem.
Lucid Toons screens Persepolis in remembrance of acclaimed Iranian-French cartoonist, filmmaker and activist Marjane Satrapi (1969-2026).
Tickets $12 ($11.40 at the door if available)
