“I don't remember ever feeling this awake.” Shy housewife Thelma (Genna Davis) is married to Daryl who likes his wife to stay quiet in the kitchen so that he can watch football on TV. Sharp-tongued Louise (Susan Sarandon) is working in a diner as a waitress and dealing with a non-committal musician boyfriend. The two friends decide to go on a weekend road trip to escape their banal realities. When Louise kills a man who tries to rape Thelma after she breaks out of her shell with some dancing in a bar, the pair embark on an accidental crime spree and a race to reach freedom in Mexico. 35 years after its release, Thelma and Louise still sparks conversations about its relation to feminism, and is still a ride or die fable of female friendship anchored by two actresses with unmatchable chemistry.
This 35th anniversary screening of Thelma and Louise will, appropriately, be screened OUTSIDE in The Museum of Natural History’s Garden. Special guest, Halifax writer and filmmaker Tara Thorne (Compulsus, Lakeview) will introduce the show. Thelma and Louise has been her favourite film since she was 13.
