Christian Petzold | Germany | 2025 | 86m
German with English subtitles

On a weekend trip to the countryside, Laura miraculously survives a car crash that’s fatal to her boyfriend. Physically unhurt but deeply shaken, she is taken in by a local woman who witnessed the accident and now cares for Laura with a motherly devotion. But what is the dynamic in her household, especially involving her husband and adult son? As the two men shake off their initial resistance to Laura’s presence, the four characters slowly construct a family-like routine. But ignoring the family’s past proves to be a challenge, particularly the memory of someone haunting those who remain.

This is the most recent film from German auteur Petzold, whose previous, acclaimed work includes Phoenix, Undine, and Afire, all of which have screened at Carbon Arc Cinema over the past decade.

“This fourth collaboration between Petzold and [lead actor Paula] Beer is an exercise in economy, pared back to the barest of bones. Although it’s a wisp of a thing, it delivers rich rewards.” - Wendy Ide, Screen International

“[Paula Beer] shifts with silvery, slippery ease between states of bemusement and shock. 'Mirrors' is another gorgeous showcase for what makes her alchemy with Petzold succeed so well.” - Ryan Lattanzio, IndieWire

“Christian Petzold has crafted yet another sneakily trenchant commentary on How We Live Now.” - Brad Hanford, Slant Magazine

Tickets $12 ($11.40 at the door if available)
